New issue for 6.9.10 - testng-failed.xml file runs passed tests once and failed tests twice.

Shawn McCarthy-2
Has anyone else seen this happen ? I opened an issue, but wasn't sure if anyone else had any ideas if I was doing something wrong.

Issue I opened :  https://github.com/cbeust/testng/issues/970

Test Class:

import org.testng.annotations.Test;
import static org.testng.Assert.fail;

public class FailedTestSuiteTest {
    @Test
    public void testFail() throws Exception {
        fail("FAIL THIS TEST");
    }

    @Test
    public void testPass() throws Exception {
    }
}

6.9.10 Creates a testng-failed.xml file :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE suite SYSTEM "http://testng.org/testng-1.0.dtd">
<suite guice-stage="DEVELOPMENT" name="Failed suite [Default suite]">
  <test verbose="2" name="Default test">
    <classes>
      <class name="com.mindflash.unused.FailedTestSuiteTest"/>
    </classes>
  </test> <!-- Default test -->
  <test name="Default test(failed)">
    <classes>
      <class name="com.mindflash.unused.FailedTestSuiteTest">
        <methods>
          <include name="testFail"/>
        </methods>
      </class> <!-- com.mindflash.unused.FailedTestSuiteTest -->
    </classes>
  </test> <!-- Default test(failed) -->
</suite> <!-- Failed suite [Default suite] -->

6.9.9 Creates a testng-failed.xml file :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE suite SYSTEM "http://testng.org/testng-1.0.dtd">
<suite guice-stage="DEVELOPMENT" name="Failed suite [Default suite]">
  <test name="Default test(failed)">
    <classes>
      <class name="com.mindflash.unused.FailedTestSuiteTest">
        <methods>
          <include name="testFail"/>
        </methods>
      </class> <!-- com.mindflash.unused.FailedTestSuiteTest -->
    </classes>
  </test> <!-- Default test(failed) -->
</suite> <!-- Failed suite [Default suite] -->

When I run the 6.9.10 testng-failed.xml file, I see 2 Failed and 1 Passed . I was expecting 1 failed and 0 passed. When I run the 6.9.9 testng-failed.xml file, I see 1 failed.

Yes, it should be fixed. Can you try the snapshot and report back?

Shawn McCarthy-2
Thanks! 6.9.11-SNAPSHOT worked for me. I did notice I could not run the tests from Eclipse with the snapshot version in my pom.xml (Maybe because my Eclipse plugin was 6.9.10 ?) Is that normal? Is there a way to install snapshots of the eclipse plugin? Or do I have to build the testng eclipse plugin from source to get the snapshot ?

Re: New issue for 6.9.10 - testng-failed.xml file runs passed tests once and failed tests twice.

Krishnan Mahadevan
Shawn,

You can force your TestNG eclipse plugin to start using the TestNG jar available in your CLASSPATH by doing the following :

Project > Properties > TestNG > Use project testng jar.

Thanks & Regards
Krishnan Mahadevan

Thanks Krishnan. I didn't know about that option. However, I have that checkmarked already (without knowing).

Shawn McCarthy-2
Actually, unchecking that option lets me run the tests with 6.9.11-SNAPSHOT in my pom.xml

Shawn,

You can force your TestNG eclipse plugin to start using the TestNG jar available in your CLASSPATH by doing the following :
