Assert.assertTrue(condition, message) do not returns message on failure.

mahadi hasan
Hello,

I am working for test automation with selenium webdriver, testng and java. My problem is, the testng method: Assert.assertTrue(condition, message) do not returns  message on failures. I am coding like bellow:

@Test
    public void cartShow() throws InterruptedException{

            try{
                for(WebElement option : options){
                    if(option.getText().equals("cart.show")) {
                        option.click();
                        methodSubmit.click();
                        methodReturnsText = methodReturns.getText();
                        System.out.println("Method Returns: " + methodReturnsText);

                        Assert.assertTrue(methodReturnsText.contains("\"id\": \"1999\""), "Bla Bla Bla");
                        System.out.println("Test Result: Pass\n");
                        break;
                    }
                }
            }catch(Throwable t){
                System.out.println("Test Result: Fail\n");
                System.out.println("StackTrace: "+t.getStackTrace());
            }
    }

Can any body please help me out why the above assertion: Assert.assertTrue(methodReturnsText.contains("\"id\": \"1999\""), "Bla Bla Bla"); do not returns message on failure.

Best Regards,
Mahadi

It works for me:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.AssertionError: Bla Bla Bla expected [true] but found [false]

Hi Cedric

I am tested the Assert.AssertTrue(condition,message) in Testng 6.8 beta, still it is not return  message when the condition is false. I am tested using selenium webdriver.

Re: Assert.assertTrue(condition, message) do not returns message on failure.

Hi,

Tried the same code and Assertion is working as expected.....

@Test
public  void assertTest() {
String methodReturnsText = "\"idd\": \"1999\"";
System.out.println(methodReturnsText);
try{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
//Assert.assertTrue(false, "Hello");
Assert.assertTrue(methodReturnsText.contains("\"id\": \"1999\""), "Bla Bla Bla");
}
catch(Throwable e){
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
}
}

OutPut:

"idd": "1999"
Bla Bla Bla expected [true] but found [false]
PASSED: assertTest

===============================================
    Default test
    Tests run: 1, Failures: 0, Skips: 0

Thanks,
Jeevan.

Hi Cedric

I am tested the Assert.AssertTrue(condition,message) in Testng 6.8 beta, still it is not return  message when the condition is false. I am tested using selenium webdriver.

It works for me:

    Assert.assertTrue("abc \"id\": \"199\" def".contains("\"id\": \"1999\""), "Bla Bla Bla");

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.AssertionError: Bla Bla Bla expected [true] but found [false]

Hello,

I am working for test automation with selenium webdriver, testng and java. My problem is, the testng method: Assert.assertTrue(condition, message) do not returns  message on failures. I am coding like bellow:

@Test
    public void cartShow() throws InterruptedException{

            try{
                for(WebElement option : options){
                    if(option.getText().equals("cart.show")) {
                        option.click();
                        methodSubmit.click();
                        methodReturnsText = methodReturns.getText();
                        System.out.println("Method Returns: " + methodReturnsText);

                        Assert.assertTrue(methodReturnsText.contains("\"id\": \"1999\""), "Bla Bla Bla");
                        System.out.println("Test Result: Pass\n");
                        break;
                    }
                }
            }catch(Throwable t){
                System.out.println("Test Result: Fail\n");
                System.out.println("StackTrace: "+t.getStackTrace());
            }
    }

Can any body please help me out why the above assertion: Assert.assertTrue(methodReturnsText.contains("\"id\": \"1999\""), "Bla Bla Bla"); do not returns message on failure.

Best Regards,
Mahadi
